Challenge
A large logistics park off I-840 experienced recurring sinkholes, ponding, and structural deterioration around its primary truck court. CCTV inspections identified multiple collapsed CMP laterals and undermined inlets causing load-bearing failure.
Solution
- Coordinated utility locates and after-hours traffic control
- Hydrovac daylighting around fiber and gas crossings
- Removed 280 linear feet of failed CMP and installed reinforced concrete pipe with new junction boxes
- Rebuilt seven inlets with polymer concrete collars and cast-iron frames/grates
- Installed riprap energy dissipation and erosion control matting at the downstream outfall
- Performed asphalt base repairs and 700 square yards of mill/overlay with new striping
Results
- Eliminated sinkholes and restored full capacity ahead of peak shipping season
- Achieved positive drainage and eliminated standing water within 48 hours after storms
- Delivered photo-documented closeout and maintenance plan accepted by the City of Greensboro’s Stormwater Division
